SEJ2027 Tour Ideas Guide

SEJ invites members to share early-stage tour ideas for our 2027 conference (April 14-17) in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Unlike concurrent session proposals, your submission doesn't need to be a fully developed plan. We're looking for early-stage ideas that help the Host Committee shape what we offer on the ground.

Is there a site, organization or corner of Nova Scotia that journalists should experience firsthand? From coastal ecosystems to Indigenous-led conservation to urban infrastructure, we want to hear your ideas for field experiences that get attendees out of the conference room and into the places and stories that define a region. Got a spot in Halifax we should see? Submit your idea, no full plan needed. A location and a sense of why it matters is enough to get started.

Tour ideas are reviewed by the SEJ2027 Host Committee, who will curate and design the final lineup of field experiences. Submission is open to SEJ members only. Find the link to access the submission form below, after reviewing the following information.

Submission & Review Process:

The Host Committee reviews all submissions and uses them to shape the final tour lineup. Submitting an idea does not guarantee it will be selected, and the Host Committee may adjust locations, speakers or format as needed. You'll hear from the conference planning team if your idea moves forward.

Frequently Asked Questions:

  • Nope, that's the point. A location and a reason why is enough.

  • Yes. If you've covered issues connected to the region or know of a compelling site, we want to hear it.

  • Something attendees can only get by being there — access to a site, a firsthand perspective or an experience a panel can't replicate.

  • We'll be in touch if your idea moves forward. Your involvement beyond that — tour lead, speaker or none — is up to you and you can indicate your preference in the form.
